Law student backs away from his plan to build nation

Print
22-year old, Yashwant Chavan who is a law student and resides in Nagpur has decided to climb-down from his earlier plan of dedicating his life to the task of nation-building. He will now focus all his energies only on the task of body-building, according to his friends.

Yashwant was inspired to dedicate himself to the task of nation-building after listening to Prime Mininster Manmohan Singh's speech where he had urged the youth of the nation to re-dedicate their lives to the task of nation-building. But six months later, Yashwant finds himself unable to motivate himself to do any fruitful task that will help build the nation. "I'm almost broke. I don't have either a job or a girlfriend. If I can't even build my career or a stable relationship, how will I build the nation? I think I'm better off trying to build something easier. I've been working out strenuously at gym for last few months and should be able to build my body if I keep at it. The task of nation-building can wait for now." he said to his friends.

yashwant-in-progressHis friends disagree. "Being practically unemployed, he has time on his hands. He could have used his extra time to use RTI Act to get valuable information on the status of semi-completed projects in our locality. He could have used his legal knowledge to file PIL's for..for..umm...to..to ensure that garbage gets cleared everyday. Instead he wastes his valuable time working out for two hours and helping his dad in his wholesale fruit business. As a result of his neglect of his duties towards the nation, the solemn task of nation-building has suffered a serious set-back."

Yashwant pointed out that he had donated his blood at the local blood bank and also volunteered for the area Ganpati Mandal helping them in their funds collection drive. "I know I should do more for the nation. A nation cannot be built without tears and sweat of dedicated youngsters like me. But I'm just an ordinary guy with limited resources. Dad's fruit business needs my help. I also need time to prepare for my law exams. I don't even get enough time to relax and have fun. I'm afraid till I''m well settled in my life and have made my pot of gold, the burden of shouldering the responsibility of building the nation will have to be undertaken by someone else."

According to statistics released by National Standing Committee on the Onerous Task of Nation-Building (NSCoTNB), only about 2 percent of country's population are effectively engaged in the task of nation building. A report released by the committee says, "Lamentably, the rest of the nation has become distracted by less onerous tasks like building personal bank balances, stock portfolios, families, careers, relationships or business empires."

The committee has advised the government to make the task of nation building more attractive for the youth of the country by following a four-point plan that it has formulated specifically for the purpose of putting the task of nation building on a fast track. The plan suggests that:
  • Instead of PM Manmohan Singh droning about the need of nation-building at poorly-attended, media-neglected seminars, actor Aamir Khan's sermonizing expertise should be used in an advertisement campaign which should be played on all television channels at 15 minute intervals for at least a period of one year.
  • Raghu Ram, producer of popular MTV reality show 'Roadies' should be persuaded to start a similar show on MTV where the contestants engage in competitive tasks to earn the title of Mr.Nation-Builder.
  • At every beauty contest, the contestants should be asked about their plans of nation-building after winning the title. The title should be awarded to the contestant who expounds her ideas in most believable manner.
  • During every interview with a movie-star, the interviewer should ask the celebrity at the end of the interview if they have any message for their fans to which the movie stars should without fail preach the virtues of nation-building.

The task of nation building was started earnestly by the government of India after the country achieved independence from British empire in August 1947. But it was abandoned very soon due to lack of adequate interest. Many fear that unless government of India in cooperation with the people of the country undertake the task of nation-building on war-footing, the nation will remain in the state of work-in-progress permanently.

People have such low ambitions. Why no one even thinks of dedicating themselves to the task of world-building? smilies/smiley.gif
