The survey has shattered some long-prevailing myths that westerners find India extremely dirty, crowded and unhygienic. It is generally thought that India provides too much of a culture shock to most tourists from US or Europe, unused to extremities of Indian environs, its hot and humid climate, crowds, chaotic roads, noise levels and ubiquitous stench of garbage. But the survey conducted by Entertainment Weekly provides a very sharp contrast to generally negative reactions of western tourists in India highlighing the difference in the perception levels of Hollywood celebrities and average western tourists.
The results of the survey has shown that 100 per cent of Hollywood celebrities are desperate to visit India and the only reason they haven't yet visited the country is because of lack of adequate opportunities. All of them think India is a great country and are planning to visit India on the next available opportunity. "We spoke with over 1000 Hollywood minor and major celebrities to find out what they think about India, Indians, Bollywood movies and stars. Surprisingly, we found out that each and every respondent was extremely interested in India. We are not very used to getting 100 % results in our surveys and were pleasantly surprised to discover that Hollywood stars are unanimous in their love and appreciation for India, its people and its movie industry" said Chris Shelton, head of media research, Entertainment Weekly.
The survey asked respondents about their views on Bollywood movies and its stars. The responses were uniformly positive and every respondent said that he or she thought very highly about movies made in Bollywood and expressed interest in acting in a Hindi movie in case an exciting offer was made to them. All respondents unanimously agreed that they loved the song and dance routines of standard Bollywood movies and given a chance they would too love to sing and dance in a Bollywood movie.
When the respondents were asked about their knowledge of Hindi movies, all of them claimed that they have seen at least a couple of Bollywood movies and thoroughly enjoyed the experience though none of them could remember the name of the movie they had seen or the plot of the movie. Most responders made vague comments like 'colorful movie', 'it was fun' 'loved the song-n-dance routine' 'the female lead was drop-dead gorgeous' about the movies they had claimed they had seen.
In addition, the respondents of the survey also claimed high awareness about Bollywood actors. But when asked who their favorite Bollywood star was, most of the respondents mumbled 'Ash' or 'that dusky beauty who appeared on Oprah' or 'the tall lanky old man with a french beard'
